With a minimalist sensibility and treatment of line as both outline and "filled in" spaces, Lesley Punton's graphite landscapes take on the quality of emergent palimpsests, finely drawn natural and human-made structures that seem to surface through the sanded paint of their own accord. Punton has exhibited her paintings and photographs at galleries in London, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, and Czechoslovakia, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions from the Scottish Arts Council, Fotofeis, the Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Academy, London. The artist lives and works in Glasgow, where she is on the faculty of the Glasgow School of Art.
