

Romaine Orthwein's photographs probe the emotional terrain of dislocation and disembodiment of self by portraying human figures within domestic settings. Her images create a disturbing, yet amusing experience for the viewer. Orthwein, originally from St. Louis, received her B.F.A. in Cinema Studies at NYU, and her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn.
